The brief
The busy Blood Test Laboratory at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital has no natural light, and staff who work under a great deal of pressure. Our client wanted to instill a feeling of calm and light to the reception area by producing two large images for the walls.
We were asked to produce wallpaper to specific wall shape and size using artwork supplied by our client.
The work
Together with artist/photographer Martin Jones, we developed the idea of sunlight falling through leaves onto the wall of a courtyard.
Martin photographed shadows of leaves on stone walls from around the hospital and then composed the image in Photoshop. We tinted the images to complement the architect’s design scheme.
From receiving the artwork, we turned the job around in three days, and successfully installed two days before the site handover.
The results
A very happy Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital. The response from staff and patients has been excellent. We have since worked continuously on other wallpaper projects in partnership with our client.
The image was recently used as an example of best practice by the Trust.
