PROJECTGiant branding banners for the Emirates Stadium
The brief
To create an engineered branding solution for the external areas surrounding the new Emirates Stadium.
We were asked to produce 8 high-impact banners and the permanently-fixed, steel frame to hold them. The construction and imagery needed to augment the stadium architecture, and deliver a premium look and feel.
The work
To execute this high-profile project, we worked in partnership with technical rigging specialists, Vertigo. Canadian based illustrator Tavis Coburn who created eight different artworks depicting famous Arsenal legends past and present huddled together, as they do before each game, circling and looking into, and embracing the stadium. Full site surveys were carried out to produce the essential stress calculations, and to put in place the necessary health and safety requirements for such a large outdoor project.
The client required a high degree of flexibility in the overall solution, so as to allow different poster campaigns/marketing messages to be featured in the frames. Our solution not only achieved this, but also allowed the replacement of individual cores of each banner, without the need to replace the entire image.
Each of the 8 banners required a custom-designed, built-steel, galvanised frame to be permanently fixed to the stadium core. These allowed each banner to be suspended in a safe and secure manner.
Measuring approximately 40 metres wide by 15 metres high, the graphic elements were printed in five sections, and designed to fit around existing Arsenal logos. We used 350g sq.m. PVC coated fabric to withstand the north London weather.
All of the graphics will be thermally recycled by the manufacturer after use, creating high amounts of reusable energy.
Results
The banners are a stunning success, creating an imposing and stylish display that benefits not only the Arsenal brand but also the stadium architecture.
